Montessori School Bali celebrated Saraswati as a school day this year, and we invited all of our families to join in our celebrations.
Saraswati Day (Day of Knowledge) is a traditional Balinese holiday marking the
day knowledge was given by God through the beautiful goddess Saraswati. Saraswati
is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts, wisdom and nature.
Putting the finishing touches to our traditional offerings.
Like many Balinese holidays, Saraswati Day is held every six months of the Balinese calendar (210 days). The day is celebrated by making offerings and praying at home, in temples, schools and offices. In many schools, students practise offering rituals, decorate their school temple and carry out other religious activities the day before Saraswati to prepare.
The school joined together for a ceremony at our temple.
At Montessori School Bali, we prepared by making beautiful fruit offerings in each classroom, while the primary children did some baking, too. On the day, children came to school wearing traditional clothing, and parents joined us for the ceremony at the school’s temple. The celebration ended with us sharing meal put together from the offerings and the food that parents generously brought from home.
It was such a wonderful celebration. Happy Saraswati Day!
