2016 ‘Christmas Bags for Children’ Project

10 Feb 2017

Christmas is not only about receiving but giving. Last December, Montessori School Bali  gave some Christmas cheers to our friends at TK Pra Widya Dharma Kayubihi in Bangli for the 2016 ‘Christmas Bags for Children’ Project. This year it was coordinated by Ari, a Lower Primary teacher. We sent out flyers and bags with a list of things to buy like: notebooks, pencils, colored pencils, erasers, rulers, drawing books, pre-school books, body soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, and shampoo. The children brought the filled up bags before the holidays.

We collected more bags than we expected, so we distributed the bags in two schools:  TK Pra Widya Dharma Kayubihi and TK Pembina Bangli. We only delivered them on January 14, as the schools were closed for the holidays. We went to Bangli early morning so we could reach the school before their dismissal at 10:00 a.m.  When we arrived, the teachers welcomed us and all the children were sitting quietly in the classroom waiting for us to enter. They looked so happy as the teacher mentioned that they will receive presents from their friends in Montessori School Bali. Some children were so excited and looked inside the bags as we carried them along. Before we gave out the bags, we had some games about what they’ve learned in school such as numbers, days of the week, names of flowers, fruits, animals, colors, shapes, and many more. After that, the teacher called them one by one to receive the bags from us. We also sang along with the children.

Sharing is such a wonderful experience when you see the smiles on the children’s faces. Thank you to all the children, parents, teachers and colleagues of Montessori School Bali who continue to support and give to our outreach programs.
